Project Gamusa, being Aatmanirbhar

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for life. – Jewish Philosopher Maimonides

These words of wisdom teach us about being self-reliant or Atmanirbhar. Instead of self-pity we should be self-reliant, and one can become self-dependent only when one learns some new skills result of which one becomes financially independent and when you have a source of livelihood you have prosperity in life and then no looking backward as now you have the real freedom, freedom from poverty, freedom from deprivation, freedom from lack of identity and most importantly freedom from lack of self-respect. All this will never walk up to you until you put in some great effort, as action springs not from thought but from a readiness for responsibility

My ancestors believed that it is the solemn duty of every countryman to give back to our motherland, in whatever way possible. And henceforth, continuing with this culture of giving back after accomplishing self-development, relinquishing all my family obligations has reached to the final stage of what is called ‘pyramid of life’, giving back to my community. And the first question that I had to encounter was ‘how’? Because mere charity would not help any individual on the contrary it would add to their complacency and dependency on others.

While consulting my daughter for targeting the right beneficiary I realised one more thing which is in extension to what Jewish philosopher Maimonides said that teach a skill to the woman of the family and you feed the whole family. With this spirit I started supporting twenty-two women to weave “Gamucha '' which is quite in trend and with this one stone we were able to hit too many birds, first my financial support was used to hone a skill, skill of weaving. Second, we as a community were able to preserve our greatest treasure, our culture. Third, we were able to take the identity of our community on the national stage and finally the mission of Atmanirbhar or self-reliance was achieved by making all these women to love what they do and do what they love bringing prosperity to their life and family.
