Project Sahyog-Helping serve the nation better

What advances a nation or a community is not so much to prop up its weakest and most helpless members, but to lift up the best and the most gifted, so as to make them of the greatest service to the country. – Jamsetji Tata

Inspired by this quote and vision of Sri Jamsetji Tata, Deusa Foundation initiated & launched, one its kind, the Project Sahyog - Helping serve the nation better, by extending our healthcare services to our brave soldiers from the Indian Army.

On the 5th of June, 2022, the Health Sector of Deusa conducted its first health camp, under Project Sahyog, at the 5th Battalion Madras Regiment.

Along with the general health & dental check-up, Deusa also emphasized on the tobacco cessation & mental health counseling, because, according to the United Service Institution of India(USI), there has been a significant increase in stress levels amongst Indian Army personnel during approximately the last two decades due to operational and non-operational stressors. " Prolonged exposure of Indian Army personnel to counter-insurgency or counter-terrorism environment has been one of the contributory factors for increased stress levels," said the research undertaken by Col A K Mor, Senior Research Fellow at the USI during 2019-20.

Thereby, a mental health survey, along with a counseling session was undertaken by Dr. Subhankar Das, Post Graduate Trainee from the Department of Community Medicine, AMCH.

A number of twenty-one soldiers (including both servicemen & ex-servicemen) were benefited from this camp.

An enthusiastic group of 5 medical student volunteers from Assam Medical College and Hospital, took part in this project by Deusa Foundation, which was co-ordinated by Mr. Nilutpal Deuri. Last but not the least, Deusa Foundation extends its heartfelt bode of thanks to the Commanding Officer and the Adjutant of the 5th Battalion Madras Regiment, for all the administrative support and helping us to conduct Project Sahyog successfully.
